چکیده

Diffusers and nozzles within a flow system are optimized with respect to their wall shapes for a given change in cross sections. The optimization target is a low value of the head loss coefficientK, which can be linked to the overall entropy generation due to the conduit component. First, a polynomial shape of the wall with two degrees of freedom is assumed. As a second approach six equally spaced diameters in a diffuser are determined by a genetic algorithm such that the entropy generation and thus the head loss is minimized. It turns out that a visualization of cross section averaged entropy generation rates along the flow path should be used to identify sources of high entropy generation before and during the optimization. Thus it will be possible to decide whether a given parametric representation of a component’s shape only leads to a redistribution of losses or (in the most-favored case) to minimal values forK.

Comparison of entropy generation minimization principle and entransy theory in optimal design of thermal systems

In this study, the relationship among the concepts of entropy generation rate, entransy theory, and generalized thermal resistance to the optimal design of thermal systems is discussed. The equations of entropy and entransy rates are compared and their implications for optimization of conductive heat transfer are analyzed. The theoretical analyses show that based on entropy generation minimizat...

Optimization of Double Pipe Fin-pin Heat Exchanger Using Entropy Generation Minimization

In the current work optimization of double pipe fin-pin heat exchanger has been studied. The effective parameters those are controlling the heat exchanger performance are divided in two categories; geometrical and operating conditions. Using the Brent’s optimization algorithm and handling the thermodynamically design concept, one can minimize entropy generation in different length of heat excha...

Bio-Inspired Multi-Functional Drug Transport Design Concept and Simulations †

In this study, we developed a microdevice concept for drug/fluidic transport taking an inspiration from supramolecular motor found in biological cells. Specifically, idealized multi-functional design geometry (nozzle/diffuser/nozzle) was developed for (i) fluidic/particle transport; (ii) particle separation; and (iii) droplet generation. Several design simulations were conducted to demonstrate ...

Design and Simulation of Valve Less PZT Micropump for Drug Delivery System

In this paper some discrete parts of an electrostatic and flat-walled self-aligned valveless, micropump for drug delivery system is designed and simulated. The core component of the system is a piezoelectric diaphragm that can convert the reciprocating movement of a diaphragm actuated by a piezoelectric actuator into a pumping effect. The deflection in the diaphragm was analyzed by applying the...
